U.S. Faces Choice on New Weapons for Fast Strikes
By DAVID E. SANGER and THOM SHANKER
Published: April 22, 2010 The New York Times

WASHINGTON — In coming years, President Obama will decide whether to deploy a new class of weapons capable of reaching any corner of the earth from the United States in under an hour and with such accuracy and force that they would greatly diminish America’s reliance on its nuclear arsenal.
The Obama administration has acceded to a demand by Russia that the United States decommission one nuclear missile for every one of these conventional weapons fielded by the Pentagon.
That provision, the White House said, is buried deep inside the New Start treaty that Mr. Obama and President Dmitri A. Medvedev signed in Prague two weeks ago.

Upcoming Military Robot Could Feed on Dead Bodies.
A Maryland company under contract to the Pentagon is working on a steam-powered robot that would fuel itself by gobbling up whatever organic material it can find — grass, wood, old furniture, even dead bodies.
That "biomass" and "other organically-based energy sources" wouldn't necessarily be limited to plant material — animal and human corpses contain plenty of energy, and they'd be plentiful in a war zone.

Biomass-Eating Military Robot Is a Vegetarian, Company Says.

Scotland’s

Water.
Bankers and consultants
The new kid on the privatisation/mutualisation block is the
Scottish Futures Trust (SFT), led by Sir Angus Grossart.
Sir Angus is one of those bankers who got us into the current
financial mess. He used to be at the Royal Bank of Scotland who
together with HBOS regularly argued for the privatisation of
Scotland's public services. The irony that they have had to be
bailed out by the public sector is obviously lost on him. The SFT
has apparently employed the consultants KPMG to make the
case for privatisation/mutualisation. KPMG make a tidy living out
of the Scottish public purse already and can no doubt see big
fees to be made from privatisation/mutualisation.

The Lisbon Treaty further increases the privatization of public services such as water.

23 May 2007- Activists held a LOUD protest outside a meeting in The Hague of an obscure and secretive body of the World Bank. What is wrong with the PPIAF? We'll tell you. Water for life and not for profit!

The bill will now go back to the House of Lords, where it originated, for a final formal approval.
The new clause allows the unelected secretary of state for business, currently Lord Mandelson, to order the blocking of “a location on the internet which the court is satisfied has been, is being or is likely to be used for or in connection with an activity that infringes copyright”.
The legislation will also allow the Home Secretary to place “a technical obligation on internet service providers” to block whichever sites it wishes.
